Kommentar | As a resident of Vienna I have to hhilgy recommend Vienna at first. Its very clean, secure and a lot to do. There are enough museums also for children, palaces/sights and restaurants for a week. You can also shop very well, although I wouldnt recommend this to Americans cause at the moment shopping is pretty expensive compared to the US due to the currency relation.Vienna is very well equipped with public transport, the metro brings you almost everywhere, and runs all 3-6 min with bus or tramway you come in almost every street. If you like soccer Vienna is a must from mid June to end June because then the European championship will happen here, a huge event many many people will come, what will increase also prices. So if you arent a fan maybe the beginning of July would be better for Austria and Switzerland, as also in other cities are games. But if you like it there will be large public watching areas where big parties are downtown where the games are broadcasted on big videowalls, tickets for the games are hard to get and begin at 500€ I think its not worth it.Must sees in Vienna are the first district around St. Stephans cathedral, there are almost only old houses which where build by the friends and employees of the Kaiser, the Hofburg, Museumsquartier (for children), Kunsthistrorisches Museum, Parlament, Schf6nbrunn, MAK, Naschmarkt, Secession, Oper, Albertina, (Graben, Ke4rntner Stradfe, Mariahilfer Stradfe, Kohlmarkt, Tuchlauben streets to shop ).Vienna is got to reach with SkyEurope, Germanwings, Flyniki, Berlinair to Vienna Airport or via Bratislava with Ryan Air and than 60 min by bus. When you go by train you may can get a ticket for 29€ per person with the Spar Linie from oebb.at, the Austrian railway.I have never been in Salzburg but it should be a nice town, but pretty little.Last summer I visited Stockholm which is also very secure and has even a national park area downtown with the Skansen. Its very beautiful situated on several islands, you can watch a lot of museums, especially those for modern art, moderna musseet (international part and outside), prins waldemarsudde and lindevalchs kunsthol have been very impressive. Also the palaces of the royals are very interesting, you should take a boot tour to Drottningholmen which is a nice palace areal a bit outside. The nobel museum is also very interesting, where you can see films and exebitions about the nobel price winners of all the years. There is a direct flight connection from Stockholm-Nykf6pping to Salzburg with Ryan Air.In Italy I visit every year the Emilia-Romagna, you may know it its the northeastern neighbour of tuscany. Bologna is its capital a town with one of the greatest culture in Europe, the first university worldwide was established there. There are a lot of sights like cathedrals (many), palaces and towers to visit also the pinacoteca is worth a visit with huge oil paintings. Ravenna is another town there, with a very own culture and tradition, especially because of big mosaics its very well known. Its a Unesco worlld culture heritage where the famous writer and thinker Dante is until today very popular. Nearby lies Faenza which is maybe the global ceramic capital, until some years ago almost all inhabitants worked with ceramic, near the railway station there the musem for ceramic is situated which shows ceramic of all times which is definitely worth visiting when you are already in the region. However may not all children like it a lot in summer.A very interesting town is also Prague, with a young culture and a lot to visit, like Hradschin or Museum Kampa. |
